Nathan T. Nemetz Chair in Legal History Established

The Honourable Nathan T. Nemetz, Q.C., formerly Chief Justice of British Columbia, is recognized both nationally and internationally for the remarkable contributions he has made to the legal profession, academia and public affairs. He also has a lifelong association with UBC, commencing with a first class B.A. in history and including service on the UBC Board of Governors and service as Chancellor.

His friends, colleagues and members of the legal community wished to recognize his contribution to Canada by establishing the Chair. The Chair is designed to enrich the education of lawyers, advance legal writing in Canada, and properly and permanently remember the name of Nathan T. Nemetz. It was made possible through the generosity of members of the legal profession and community and the Province of British Columbia through the World of Opportunity Campaign. In 1993, Professor Wesley Pue was appointed as the first holder of the Nemetz Chair in Legal History.

Professor Douglas Harris, featured in the photograph above, is the incumbent Nathan T. Nemetz Chair in Legal History.
