During his life, Douglas McK Brown was a dedicated member of the Vancouver legal community. In addition to his busy practice with the firm of Russell & DuMoulin where he was know as the profession head and heart of the firm, Professor Brown also taught at the law school at the University of British Columbia. Sadly, Douglas McK Brown passed away in 1982. Following his death a campaign was initiated to establish a Chair of Law in his name. Fundraising for the endowment was completed and the chair established in 1986.
Since the Chair was established, a distinguished visitor has been appointed each year to the lectureship in his name. Visitors have included former UBC Chancellor Allan McEachern, Oxford Professor Sir Peter North, and Mr. Justice Allan M Linden. A list of previous Chairs can be found here.
