Nearly 350 alumni, faculty, students, staff, and supporters gathered in downtown Vancouver on April 21, 2015, to pay tribute to Dean Mary Anne Bobinski’s achievements over the past 12 years. Dean Bobinski completes her two terms as Dean this June. Dean Bobinski was recognized for her many contributions to the Allard School of Law including her efforts to engage the legal community, which contributed to the dramatic growth and development of the law school over the course of her tenure. It was also an opportunity to celebrate shared achievements with the law school’s community of alumni, friends, and supporters.
The luncheon was attended by UBC President Arvind Gupta, Former Prime Minister Kim Campbell PC CC OBC QC, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia The Honourable Robert J. Bauman, philanthropist Peter A. Allard QC, and many other special guests. The event included a special video tribute including remarks from faculty, students, staff and friends of the law school.
During her two terms, Dean Bobinski has worked with faculty, staff and students in Law to establish and carry out a strategic plan; recruited outstanding scholars and teachers; enhanced the curriculum and student services for JD and graduate students; more than doubled the level of externally-supported research; initiated and completed a new law building project; developed closer ties for the law school with its alumni and the profession; secured more than $90 million from donors in support of the Faculty’s priorities; and significantly enhanced the law school’s national and international linkages and recognition as one of Canada and the world’s leading centres for legal education and research.
