Cory Kent

Class of 1994-1995

Cory Kent is a Partner at McMillan LLP (“McMillan”) and currently serves as the Co-Chair for the British Columbia Mining Group at McMillan. He is a legal expert in mining law and its intersection with corporate and securities law. At McMillan he represents a wide range of clients from private and publicly held companies to shareholders and boards of directors. His legal work primarily deals with issues related to the natural resources, cannabis, and technology sectors.

Kent graduated from the law school at UBC with the LLB Class of 1995. Prior to attending law school he obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University in 1990. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1996.

Upon graduation from law school, Kent began working for Anfield, Sujir, Kennedy & Durno LLP, where he remained until 2002. In 2002 he joined Lang Michener LLP—a full service national firm—as Partner. Lang Michener LLP merged with McMillan in 2011 and Kent continued on as Partner with the newly combined firm. He was also the Director at PNI Digital Media Ltd. from 1999 to 2013.

Kent is frequently recognized for his stellar work in mining law. Legal500 Canada 2020 listed Kent as a Recommended Lawyer in the field of Energy and Natural Resources (Mining). He was also recognized by the 2019 Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a Repeatedly Recommended Lawyer in Mining.
