George Scott

Class of 1954

George Scott was born to immigrant parents in 1921, his father Scottish and his mother from an Irish family which were among the first to settle Ladner in the late 1800s. He grew up in Vancouver, attending Britannia High School but further schooling was delayed by the advent of the Second World War. Mr Scott enlisted and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, as a pilot and flight instructor in Canada and England.

Following the war, Mr. Scott enrolled at the University of British Columbia, obtaining a degree in Agriculture in 1950, and later an LL. B. in 1954. He articled with David W. Tupper of Bull Housser & Tupper, as well as with Thomas Marshall at Taylor Marshall & Munro, where he entered practice after admittance to the bar. He left in 1963 to form Meredith, Marshall, McConnell and Scott, where he developed a corporate securities practice. Then in 1981 he formed Worrall Scott & Page as a firm specializing in corporate and securities law, and took on more of the responsibilities for mentorship of younger lawyers in the firm.

In his personal life, George Scott was a proud and loving husband, father of three daughters, and grandfather to five grandchildren. He was a founding member of the Hollyburn Club and a lifelong member of the Vancouver Club. He enjoyed reading, especially in relation to his interest in military history and Winston Churchill.

George Scott passed away in 2012 at the age of 90. He is remembered as a gentleman practitioner, who always treated his clients and colleagues with courtesy and respect.
