Miriam Kresivo, QC

Miriam Kresivo was the secretary treasurer of the Vancouver Bar Association for almost 14 years. Elected a Bencher of the Law Society of BC in May 2012, Miriam held the positions of Chair of the Governance Committee, Vice Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, a member of the Discipline Committee, Executive Committee, and Regulation and Insurance Working Group. In 2018, she became the President of the Law Society of BC. Miriam has been on the executive of both the Canadian Bar Association’s Pension and Corporate Counsel Sections. From 2002 to 2012, she was a director of BC Pavilion Corporation, which owns and operates the Vancouver Convention Centre and BC Place, and was involved in the expansion of both sites. Miriam has served on the UBC Alumni Awards Committee and has been a director of the Vancouver Writers Festival, and is currently one of the directors of the Hamber Foundation.

Currently practising in the area of corporate and governance matters, Miriam has gained extensive experience in her role as General Counsel of a major Canadian oil company, which included directing all aspects of the refining, distribution, and marketing of petroleum products. She has dealt with key business issues, including the development and implementation of business plans and strategic plans of large corporations, the development and approval of corporate policies, preparation and review of operating budgets, and crisis management relating to serious environmental concerns including all public affairs and media communication. In addition to the foregoing, Miriam’s responsibilities included overseeing all legal matters, whether handled internally or by outside legal counsel, including the review of all corporate commercial, corporate governance, intellectual property, environmental and competition matters, as well as labour and employment issues. Miriam has acted as Chair of a Pension Committee managing close to $450 million; this role included decision making on all investments and investment options of the fund. She has also held the title of Chief Privacy Officer, responsible for all privacy issues relating to employees and creditors. Miriam was in charge of developing and ensuring adherence to corporate privacy policy and guidelines, employee training and communication, and audits.
