
Vaughan Hembroff shares the distinction of many of his classmates from the class of 1962 - appointment to a superior court. He attended the University of British Columbia to study Arts, where he met his wife Marilyn and was married in 1957. He proceeded to study law at UBC, and admits he enjoyed every minute of it. He returned to article in his hometown of Lethbridge, Alberta under Charles G. Virtue at Virtue and Company.
He remained at Virtue and Company throughout his career as a lawyer, receiving appointment to Queen's Counsel and serving as Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta. In 1991 he was appointed to the Bench in Alberta, and admits that just like law school, he enjoyed every minute of being a judge. He was elevated to sit as a Superior Court Judge in Alberta, and sat for over 20 years throughout Alberta, in towns such as Fort McMurray and Medicine Hat, as well as in cold remote locations throughout the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. He has been recognized for this work with the 2003 Queen's Bench Jubilee Medal, as well as the 2005 Alberta Centennial Medal.
During his career, Vaughan Hebroff QC was greatly involved with the Legal Aid Society in Lethbridge, as well as the provincial Legal Aid Society of Alberta. He also served as an Alderman for the City of Lethbridge for nine years.
