Leonard T. Doust, QC is a member of the LLB class of 1966. He is a member of the BC bar and the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Doust practices in the areas of criminal law, securities law, and commercial law as an Associate Counsel in the litigation group at McCarthy Tétrault LLP. Mr. Doust has demonstrated his commitment to access to justice through involvement with the Public Commission on Legal Aid. He sat on the Board of Directors and chaired the Board of the Legal Services Society between 1983 and 1989.
Mr. Doust is consistently recognized as a leading Canadian lawyer. Mr. Doust was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1984. In 2008, Mr. Doust received the Alumni Award of Distinction from the Allard Law Alumni Association, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to his field that brought honour to the law school. He received the Peter S. Hyndman Mentorship award in 2009 from the Vancouver Bar Association. Mr. Doust has also been awarded the Lawyer Helping Lawyer Award by the BC Lawyers Assistance Program (2009) and the CBA BC President’s Medal (2011). In 2017, Mr. Doust was recognized for over 50 years of achievements in criminal law by the CBA’s Vancouver Criminal Law Subsection.
